Writing the Story in Photos

Join photographer Mark Chester and learn the basics about how to tell a story through photos.

Participants will:

• Merge elements of photos and words into a narrative.

• Learn how to transfer personal experiences and observations, to assemble a coherent story that has touched you in some way.

• Discuss editing photographs: which ones enhance the story.

• Embellish your photos with words through in-class writing and discussion.

• Learn how to develop the story with an evocative beginning, middle, and end that keeps the reader curious.

Participants will need to bring 10-20 photographs to the workshop.

Recommended pre-class reading:
On Writing Well by William Zinsser. Copies will be made available for checkout at Sturgis Library.

This workshop is free but space is limited–registration is required.
