Journeys in the Light: Democracy, Diversity, and Myth in the Wake of the Mayflower FILM
January 17 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
The film Journeys in the Light, Democracy, Diversity, and Myth in the Wake of the Mayflower looks beyond the Euro-centric Mayflower story to present highlights in the history of the African American, Cape Verdean, and Wampanoag people on Cape Cod since the arrival of the English settlers in 1620.
The one-hour documentary—produced by filmmaker Janet Murphy Robertson in collaboration with the Zion Union Heritage Museum (ZUHM)––features important Cape Cod artists and local historians who provide stories and insights that give a window into this historic community and, in the process, the broader story of America.
Join filmmaker Janet Robinson Murphey, Cape Cod artist Robin Joyce Miller, and Julia Johnson of The Zion Union Heritage Museum for a showing of the film and a discussion afterwards.
