Guided Hike from Library to Library
April 22, 2023 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Kick off National Library Week and celebrate Earth Day!
Join us for a guided nature hike between Whelden Library in West Barnstable and Sturgis Library in Barnstable Village.
In honor of Earth Day, gloves and bags will be provided for hikers who wish to clean up trash during the hike!
Hike length is 6 Miles, with an opportunity to end hike mid-way.
The Trails
We will travel on paths in the following conservation areas:
The Bridge Creek Conservation Area
Notable for its diverse and accessible wetlands habitats. The area hosts an array of interesting features such as stonewalls, abandoned cranberry bogs, tidal and freshwater streams, open marsh, hardwood swap, and upland.
Old Jail Lane Conservation Area
Encompasses 180 acres and is part of a major terminal moraine representing the limit of glacial advance before retreat some 15,000 years ago. The predominant habitat is wooded uplands dominated by pitch pine, scrub oak, and American holly. The steep ridges, depressions, and one significant glacial mound make hiking interesting.
