Deed Notes
1799 date is estimate--no date on document and Orleans Historical Society thought it was a good estimate. A group that describes themselves as the subscribers and owners of the land in the great general or common field, lying unfenced on all sides of the Snow's and Jarvises windmill, quitclaim all and each of their shares and parcels in said field to the Town of Orleans. The Town shall have complete power to regulate this land by their legally chosen committee for the improvement thereof, and which they judge to be in the interest of all concerned, and in the interest of the town. They have the right to assign the erection of a fence, and to penalize an owner who does not erect a fence. Further detail on how the land is to be regulated, and penalties enforced can be obtained by reading the original deed.
